Yikes!! 😱 I live in the Rio Grande Valley. I’m from the county of Zapata but Starr County feels like home to me bc my family lives across the Rio Grande at that point. Growing up is where I spent countless summers. I know the people of the area. And it is surreal to me that this mostly Mexican, Spanish speaking community would fall to the tentacles of the far right. And then I think of how the Democratic Party left us behind. No infrastructure. No resources. No education.

I might be wrong about this but when it comes to economy, the main source of good paying jobs are border patrol, U.S. Customs, and DPS in Starr and oilfield jobs in Zapata. And therein lies the change in political affiliation.

Makes sense. They really need to increase the turnout there.

One thing I noticed about Zapata is that it's only the top of the ticket which is red, down ballot candidates are still blue.

That is a great observation. Any other information you have would be appreciated. They have a brand new County Chair and new precinct chairs.

I think u nailed it Fabiola.....ur cousins up North have no idea about the Hispanic experience in the Valley......for the 1st time in a century the Eagle Ford offered real wealth and of course BP is jobs and law enforcement so they're redneck as all get out. I heard this anecdote from a Cisneros compadre..a story unknown to us Anglos.......there is is a big difference between SA and South Texas Tejanos and El Paso Mexican Americans. the SA/South Tejanos were here before Stephen F. Austin and don't much appreciate illegal immigration....News bulletin Ds , like u can have 2 Hispanics with 2 different political postions , kind like MAGA whites vs Lib whites..It never occurs to us whites that u guys have agency.

Soros/Beto alumni are up to something in the Valley. Any idea what they are up too?

Regarding Soros money- we, as in community organizers and grassroots, have no clue what it’s been spent on other than salaries to 3 people, two of whom are husband and wife. The Hidalgo County Party, as per my understanding, is receiving 100,000 per year for the next 10 years. It’s being handled by Texas Majority PAC. And yet they have no money, no plan, that I know about, and they are asking for donations . Their HQ is practically empty of furniture, it was for many months. There might be an admin now. They don’t pay for rent. There are no meetings or trainings. So there’s that.
