Which Democratic Campaigns Have Announced Their Run In The 2024 Election?
There are 26 days left until the filing deadline, find out who has already announced their candidacy.
Last week, I listed the open seats. Since then, official filings have opened up with the state, and campaigns are announcing left and right. The filing deadline is December 11, 26 days from now. So, I’ll keep y’all updated until then on new announcements, as I expect many more.
Let’s get into it. (These are not endorsements. It’s just a list of everyone running.)
If I didn’t mention your favorite elected official, don’t worry; it doesn’t mean they aren’t running again. They just haven’t announced yet. Also, there are more than a dozen Democrats I know who are running for the State House but haven’t announced yet. Don’t worry. I’ll keep you updated.
Congress.
TX03, which Keith Self currently holds, has two Democratic challengers. Neil Efros is the first contender. You can find him on Twitter and Facebook. The second is Sandeep Srivastava. Lance Gooden’s district, TX05, also has two Democratic challengers. The first is Mark Mosely. Here is his website and Twitter. Ruth Torres is also running. You can find her on her website, Twitter, and Facebook.
TX06, currently held by Jake Elzey, is facing John Love. You can visit his website or find him on Twitter and Facebook.
Lizzie Fletcher (D) is running for re-election in TX07. However, I endorsed her primary candidate, Pervez Agwan. You can read the reason why here. You can also find Pervez on his website, Twitter, and Facebook.
Laura Jones is the Democrat challenging Morgan Luttrel in TX08. This is her second attempt at this seat. Here is her website, Twitter, and Facebook.
Al Green (D) is running for re-election for TX09.
We do have a candidate for TX10 against Michael McCaul. Her name is Teresa Boisseay. You can find her on her website and Twitter.
TX12 is an empty seat due to Kay Granger’s retirement. Trey Hunt is running for this election. I endorsed Trey earlier this week. You can find him on his website and Facebook.
The fantastic Michelle Valejo, who only lost the last election by a hair, is giving it a second go-around in TX15 against Monica De La Cruz. Here is Michelle’s website, Twitter, and Facebook.
Veronica Escobar (D) is running for re-election for TX16.
TX18 is jam-packed. This is currently Shiela Jackson Lee’s seat. However, she’s in a race for mayor of Houston against John Whitmire. The runoff is on December 9. There’s no word on whether she’ll seek re-election to Congress if she loses that race. We’ll have to wait and see. Aside from her, Amanda Edwards is running for this position. In TX23, currently held by Tony Gonzeles, he has two contenders. First, there is Santos Limon. You can find him on his website and Facebook. Then, there is Lee Bausinger. Here is his TikTok.
TX24 has several Democratic challengers against Beth Van Duyne. The first is Francine Ly, who you can find on her website, Facebook, or Twitter. Then, there is Sam Eppler. Here is his website, Twitter, and Facebook.
Anthony James Tristan is running for TX27 against Michael Cloud. Here is his website, Facebook, and Twitter.
Henry Cuellar (D) is running for re-election for TX28.
Sylvia Garcia (D) is running for re-election for TX29.
Many candidates are running for TX32, Colin Allred’s old seat. First, there is Julie Johnson. Here is her website, Facebook, and Twitter. Also, there is Jan McDowell. Greg Casar (D) is running for re-election for TX35.
There will be several Democratic candidates for TX38 against Wesley Hunt. However, I have already endorsed Gion Thomas. You can read why here. Here is his website and Facebook.
Texas State Senate.
Carol Alvarado (D) is running for re-election for SD06.
In TX07 currently sits Texas’ worst Senator, Paul Bettencourt. Luckily, this go-around, he won’t be unopposed. The Democrat running against him is Nasir Malik. You can find him on Twitter or his website.
TX10, currently held by Phil King, does have a Democratic challenger. He is Andrew Morris, and you can find him on his website.
Sarah Eckhardt (D) is running for re-election for SD14.
Like Shiela Jackson Lee in TX18, we don’t know what will happen with SD15, John Whitmire’s seat, if he should lose. Regardless, several Democrats are running for this seat. However, I already endorsed Karthik Soora. You can read why here. Here is his website and Twitter.
Nathan Johnson (D) is running for re-election for SD16.
Royce West (D) is running for re-election for SD23.
Morgan Lamantia (D) is running for re-election for SD26.
Cesar Blanco (D) is running for re-election for SD29.
Only half of the Senate seats are up this election, as these are all four-year terms.
Texas State House.

Richard Raymond (D) is running for re-election for HD42.
Erin Zwiener (D) is running for re-election for HD45.
Cheryl Cole (D) is running for re-election for HD46.
Vikki Goodwin (D) is running for re-election for HD47.
Donna Howard (D) is running for re-election for HD48.
Gina Hinojosa (D) is running for re-election for HD49.

Mihaela Plesa (D) is running for re-election for HD70.
Eddie Morales (D) is running for re-election for HD74.
Mary Gonzalez (D) is running for re-election for HD75.
Three Democrats are seeking Lina Ortega’s seat in HD77. However, none of them have their websites or social media up yet, even though they’ve told the local press they will be running. I’ll keep y’all in the loop.
Joe Moody (D) is running for re-election for HD78.
Claudia Ordaz Perez (D) is running for re-election for HD79.
Several Democrats have also announced they are seeking Tracy King’s seat in HD80, but I couldn’t find any websites or social media for them yet.
Ramon Ramero (D) is running for re-election for HD90.
Salman Bhojani (D) is running for re-election for HD92.
The Christian nationalist in HD93, Nate Schatzline, has a Democratic challenger. Her name is Perla Bojorquez. You can find her on her website or Facebook.

Nicole Collier (D) is running for re-election for HD95.
A few Democrats will be running against Charlie Geren in HD99, although none have announced yet.
Venton Jones (D) is running for re-election for HD100.
Chris Turner (D) is running for re-election for HD101.
Rafael Anchia (D) is running for re-election for HD103.
Jessica Gonzalez (D) is running for re-election for HD104.

John Bryant (D) is running for re-election for HD114.

John Bucy (D) is running for re-election for HD136.
Gene Wu (D) is running for re-election for HD137.

A few Democrats will run for Jarvis Johnson’s old seat, HD139. However, neither has a website or social media up yet.
Armando Walle (D) is running for re-election for HD140.
Senfronia Thompson (D) is running for re-election for HD141.
Christina Morales (D) is running for re-election for HD145.

Penny Morales Shaw (D) is running for re-election for HD148.
Hubert Vo (D) is running for re-election for HD149.
What about the State Board of Education and the Texas Supreme Court?
We have candidates and still need candidates for both. Since those are critical races, I will cover them separately sometime in the next week or so. Keep on the lookout for those.
With 26 days to go, we’re still waiting on many announcements, and much of this is subject to change if candidates drop. I will keep you updated. We may wind up with a full slate. Stay tuned.
