Troy Nehls Calls Women Heifers And Greg Abbott Calls A Fouth Special Session
Nehls offends the LGBTQ community and women, while Abbott flexes his dictatorship muscles.
Congressman Troy Nehls is by far one of the worst representatives Texas has in Congress. His presence in DC is a double-whammy, considering he isn’t even from Texas. Today, in a committee hearing for federal prison oversight, Nehls went on the attack against transgender prisoners, the LGBTQ community, and women.
Here is the full five-minute clip:
Nehls started his rant in the same way he starts all of his speeches: by licking Trump’s boots. He praised Mango Mussolini’s rollback of transgender rights while incarcerated.
Violence against transgender people is worse in places that are separated by sex, such as county jails, immigration facilities, and prisons. During the Obama administration, the prisons were beginning to separate transgender people based on their gender identity. The Trump administration rolled those protections back and mandated that trans individuals be sent to prisons of the gender they were born with.
From the National Center for Transgender Equality: Transgender people in prison are exposed to horrific rates of abuse by both staff and their fellow inmates, facing physical and sexual assault at much higher rates than their counterparts. As the USTS found, transgender people are ten times as likely to be sexually assaulted by their fellow inmates and five times as likely to be sexually assaulted by staff.
If Nehl’s seeming advocating of violence against transgender people wasn’t offensive enough, he also referred to women as “heifers” multiple times.
Then, Nehls’ said that if he were going to prison for ten, he would tell the prison officials he would say to them he was a woman so they could lock him up “with the ladies.” He was insinuating that he would transition into another gender to have sex with women.
It was an infuriating spectacle.
King Greg Abbott calls for a fourth special session.
The third special session ended with no movement on Abbott’s vouchers, no more border wall funding, and the death of the “Show Me Your Papers” bill.
Without skipping a beat, Abbott immediately called for a fourth session to begin tonight.
Here are Abbott’s new priorities:
Vouchers
“Show Me Your Papers” legislation
More Border Wall Funding
It costs the legislature around $1 million daily to meet in session. Abbott has decided to force the legislature to meet repeatedly until he gets what he wants, just like a dictator. These bills that Abbott wants are unpopular and do not have the support of most Texas, including Republicans.
This just isn’t how a democracy is supposed to work. No one appointed Abbott the King of Texas. I predict once again vouchers will not pass. The other racist border bills might make it through, but at this point, there’s no telling what will happen. Dade Phelan and Dan Patrick are still not on speaking terms.
We’re in for another 30 days of chaos, drama, and GOP infighting. Buckle up.
The polls are closed, and results are coming in.
Houston’s mayor race, House District 2 (Bryan Slaton’s old seat), and 14 referendums were all voted on. I’ll have a full breakdown of the results tomorrow.
