The Dumbest Timeline: How Republican Climate Denial Will Kill Us All
Republicans are leading us toward climate catastrophe—and we must stop them.
The death toll for Hurricane Helene has topped 230, and hundreds, maybe even thousands of people are still missing. Helene made landfall in Florida only 11 days ago as a Category 4 hurricane, and tomorrow, Hurricane Milton will hit Florida as a likely Category 5, less than 200 miles from where Helene made landfall.
What makes this situation unprecedented is the rapid succession of two major hurricanes—both packing devastating force—within such a short period and so close to one another geographically. Historically, it has been rare to see hurricanes of this magnitude hitting the same region within weeks, much less days. This can be attributed to the climate crisis.
We are now in the phase of the climate crisis where hurricanes are making meteorologists weep on live TV.
Yet, some people within our government claim, “They can control the weather.”
Okay, Marjorie Taylor Greene is the same person who said, “Jewish space lasers cause wildfires.” She’s just one dumb person. Right? Unfortunately, no. Plenty of Republicans this week have come out saying or implying that these hurricanes are manufactured.
It requires a uniquely American kind of stupidity to deny human-caused climate change your whole life and then suddenly believe in human-caused weather modification when the storms get too big.
For years, climate scientists have warned of more frequent and powerful Gulf Hurricanes due to rising sea levels and warming waters.
For the very people who denied it to turn around and now BLAME those who tried to stop it is dumb. This is why we’re living in the dumbest timeline in human history.
We’re facing a nightmarish future paid for by decades of cowardly and corrupt politicians, grotesque overconsumption, and wilful ignorance. And this is just the beginning. We must transform society and adapt rapidly, or we will lose everything.
Back-to-back record-breaking hurricanes, multiple towns wiped off the map, meteorologists crying on live television.
The climate crisis isn’t a future-generation problem; we passed the 1.5C warming threshold last year.
We’re in the climate crisis right now. And the Republicans in charge continue to deny its existence, dance to chants of “drill, baby, drill,” and tell their voters that “It’s the Democrats creating these disasters.”
Since 1980, there have been 395 weather disasters in the US, with total damages over $1 billion. These disasters have cost $2.66 trillion in total and killed 16,500 people.
We are on the brink of an irreversible climate disaster. This is a global emergency beyond any doubt. Much of the very fabric of life on Earth is imperiled. We are stepping into a critical and unpredictable new phase of the climate crisis.
More and more scientists are considering the possibility of societal collapse due to climate change. Yet, the Republicans in our government are sitting around talking about weather machines controlled by the Democrats.
We are on the brink of societal collapse, driven by a rapidly worsening climate crisis. At the same time, Republican leaders, blinded by ignorance and greed, continue to deny the science and push us ever closer to the edge.
Their refusal to acknowledge the reality of climate change is not just political posturing—it’s reckless endangerment.
Every year that they delay meaningful action, they push us further into an abyss of environmental catastrophe.
Republican climate deniers will kill us. Their negligence is not an abstract threat but a real and present danger. As the seas rise, the storms intensify, and wildfires become more frequent and deadly, the most vulnerable among us will pay the highest price. But eventually, no one will escape. The costs to the economy, human life, and the very stability of our social fabric will be incalculable. And yet, Republican leaders continue to push fossil fuel expansion, dismantle environmental protections, and sell out to corporate interests.
This problem isn’t limited to Washinton, DC, or loonies like MTG and Alex Jones. Over the last several years, I’ve watched hundreds of hours of the Texas Legislature and followed most of the GOP on social media. Climate denialism is prevalent among Texas Republicans.
Texas State Senator Lois Kolkhorst (R), in 2023, said, “Drill, baby, drill. I love oil.”
Only six weeks ago, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham (R) was boasting about the state’s oil production.
And here is our Railroad Commissioner, who is supposed to be responsible for regulating the fossil fuel industry, denying that climate change exists.
There are hundreds of examples I could point you to.
Our infrastructure is crumbling, and communities are already being displaced by extreme weather. If we continue on this path, the systems we depend on—food supply chains, healthcare, and energy—will fail. This will lead to widespread famine, disease, and unrest. Without immediate, systemic changes to how we generate energy, produce food, and build communities, society as we know it will unravel.
And what is the response from climate-denying Republicans? Claims that “Democrats are creating the disasters” or that “it’s all a hoax.” They perpetuate a dangerous cycle of misinformation, allowing their base to believe these lies because they serve their short-term political gain. But we don’t have time for political games. We are on the precipice of irreversible damage, and the refusal to accept reality will affect us, our children, and future generations.
The truth is, there is no escaping the climate crisis.
The only way forward is to fight it with transformative policies that prioritize renewable energy, decarbonization, and climate resilience. But every moment Republicans continue to deny science is a moment lost—and in this battle, lost moments cost lives.
The Sunrise Movement is an organization of young people fighting to stop the climate crisis and usher in a Green New Deal. They have been pressuring President Biden to declare a climate emergency.
Various cities and counties across America have declared a climate emergency, but these areas only cover 13% of the country’s population. Cities and counties in Texas can’t declare a climate emergency because the Republicans in the State Legislature made it illegal.
Hawaii is the only state to have declared a climate emergency. While its higher elevations provide some protection from complete submersion, like what might happen in parts of Florida, rising seas are already creating serious issues for coastal communities.
Of course, this all starts and ends with voting.
The future of humanity depends on the choices we make today—and one of the most important choices we have is at the ballot box. To prevent the catastrophic consequences of unchecked climate change, we must vote out the politicians who deny science and stand in the way of necessary progress.
This isn’t just about Republican climate deniers like Marjorie Taylor Greene or Texas Republicans who peddle fossil fuel fantasies; it’s also about Democrats who claim to care but continue to pander to the fossil fuel industry. (I won’t call them out today, but you’ll hear a lot about when the 89th Legislative Session convenes in January.)
Voting them out is not just a symbolic gesture—it’s a fight for survival. Every election is an opportunity to elect climate champions, leaders who will prioritize renewable energy, push for aggressive climate policies, and work to build a sustainable future. If we don’t act now, the damage will be irreversible.
The future belongs to those who show up. Vote for candidates who will tackle the climate crisis head-on—vote for our planet’s future, our children, and every generation to come.
Vote early, vote often, just vote.
October 21: First day to early vote.
October 25: Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot.
November 1: Last day to early vote.
November 5: Election day!

Killing us is the WHOLE point. The wealthy have their bunkers all kitted out and ready to go. They want us all dead.
There is no denying the stupidity, to say nothing of the cruelty, of anyone saying people are using "weather weapons" to produce destructive hurricanes. The Rs really have pushed their agenda beyond the limits of anything I could imagine. But what can we expect from the likes of MTG who protested that 'fake meat' was being grown in PEACH TREE DISHES. 🙄😫 We must vote these idiot power mongers out of office before it's too late--- if it isn't already. So, yes: SHOW UP TO VOTE, EVERYBODY! And bring your neighbors!
