Lone Star Left Endorses Lauren Ashley Simmons For HD146
A fresh voice for Harris County? Why Lauren Ashley Simmons is the change HD146 Needs.
Last year, the Democratic incumbent of Texas House District 146 (Harris County) voted to take away the rights of LGBTQ youth and to ban books, going against the very Democratic principles of freedom and individual expression. Because of that, she must be primaried with someone Democratic voters can rely on.
That person is Lauren Ashley Simmons.
If you don’t know who Lauren Ashley Simmons is yet, let me introduce you:
If you haven’t seen the video already, it’s worth the five-minute watch. The first time I saw this video, I thought, “She should run for office.” I was delighted to hear her announcement only a few months later.
On her website, Simmons says she is running for this seat “because we’ve lost our seat at the table in state government. Our current representative has lost her way and now votes with Greg Abbott and Republicans to take away our rights, destroy our public schools, and hurt our kids.”
Simmons is a mom, a union organizer, and a fierce community advocate. Her priorities include access to healthcare, a living wage, and LGBTQ rights. She’s a CWA member and shop steward and organizes for Black low-income women and migrant women to get fair wages and benefits, improved working conditions, and better job security.
At the beginning of this election season, I promised only to endorse candidates who were taking the climate crisis seriously. Simmons has a comprehensive platform on her website, which includes addressing the climate crisis.
Simmons isn’t someone who shows up for her community just once. She shows up time and time again. Here she is confronting the State Board of Education:
For all these reasons, Lone Star Left is endorsing Lauren Ashley Simmons and urges you to support her in the March 5th primary election.
You can find Simmons on her website, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
