Ken Paxton Claims Another Impeachment Is Imminent: Fact Or Fiction?
Is Paxton's second impeachment claims just a political smokescreen?
Yesterday, following an appearance on the far-right propaganda outlet Newsmax, Attorney General Ken Paxton put out the following statement:
According to Paxton, the House General Investigation Committee is about to launch a second impeachment of Ken Paxton. He claims that establishment Republicans and Democrats are trying to remove him before the 2024 election and replace him with someone who won’t investigate “voter fraud,” therefore allowing Trump to lose.
But is there any validity to his claims?
The House General Investigation Committee is scheduled to meet on July 17.
However, the reason they why is not public. There could be a million reasons, including more corruption from Ken Paxton or something else entirely.
However, there’s something else that is very important that we need to look at regarding Ken Paxton. That’s the open investigation against him with the FBI.
According to the alt-right publication Current Revolt, several members of Paxton’s inner circle have been subpoenaed by the FBI.
Current Revolt: Paxton Staffers Subpoenaed By FBI
You’re thinking, “An alt-right publication? How believable are they?”
This particular Texas political site is far-right and does lean toward fascism, but unlike the QAnon Texas Scorecard, I haven’t seen fake news coming from them particularly.
Only two weeks ago, according to the Texas Tribune, a federal appeals court recently rejected a Texas agency’s attempt to withhold records and shield its employees from testifying before a grand jury in a federal investigation targeting Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s decision, which denied the agency’s use of attorney-client privilege to withhold evidence related to alleged misconduct by senior officials. The investigation, stemming from a 2020 report by Paxton’s former deputies, involves accusations of Paxton accepting bribes from Austin real estate developer Nate Paul. This ruling, which clears the way for senior agency employees to testify, indicates that federal authorities continue to investigate Paxton despite his previous acquittal by the Legislature on bribery and abuse of office.
So, if the House were looking to impeach Paxton again, it would be on different charges.
Of course, it would make sense if they were looking to impeach Dan Patrick for accepting a bribe in exchange for Paxton’s acquittal.
Aaron Torres from the Dallas Morning News spoke to a House General Investigation Committee member who said, “There’s no basis for that whatsoever.”
I also contacted the two Democrats on that committee this morning, but I have not heard back from either yet.
However, Lauren McGaughy, with NPR and KUT, pointed out something else this morning. She said, “This filing in Nate Paul’s federal case may shed more light on the FBI probe into Texas AG Ken Paxton.”
This transcript is of a call with the judge from December; it was not filed until February. Nate Paul’s lawyer says Paul is involved in another FBI case and could be charged.
Paul’s lawyers say “the elephant in the room” is another federal case in which Paul is involved. He didn’t know if his client would be charged in that case, too, which undermines the idea that the FBI may be trying to get Paul to flip on Paxton. Also, note the firewall between Paul and the other case.
So, is Ken Paxton looking at another impeachment, a DOJ indictment, or both?
While we all wish the election Gods would bless us with another impeachment trial of Ken Paxton right before such a critical election in Texas, there is no evidence that is what the House General Investigation Committee will be targeting.
Since they already impeached him on his bribes from Nate Paul, one would think that if there were another impeachment, it would be for something else entirely.
There is no shortage of Paxton crimes; in fact, he’s bragged about them previously on national podcasts.
Paxton is a crooked swindler, villain, traitor, and a criminal. He has no place in government or law enforcement. However, no evidence exists that the House plans to launch a second impeachment.
🙏🏻We can still pray to the election Gods for such a blessing.
Another possibility.
Given the current circumstances, it’s becoming increasingly clear that an FBI indictment against Attorney General Ken Paxton is likely imminent. Despite his claims of an impending second impeachment by the House General Investigation Committee, no substantial evidence supports this assertion. Paxton could be fabricating these claims to create confusion and distract from the real threat he faces—federal criminal charges.
Paxton’s allegations of a bipartisan effort to oust him before the 2024 election are unfounded and seem to be a strategic move to link his legal troubles to political adversaries. This tactic is common for Paxton, who has a history of deflecting and blaming others for his misconduct.
As confirmed by recent federal court rulings, the ongoing FBI investigation is severe and centered on accusations of bribery and obstruction of justice involving Paxton and his associate, Austin real estate developer Nate Paul. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision to allow the testimony of senior agency employees and the release of records further demonstrates the depth of this investigation.
Paxton’s recent actions and statements are likely a desperate attempt to muddy the waters and rally his supporters by painting himself as a victim of political persecution.
In reality, Paxton’s legal woes are of his own making.
What will happen?
At this point, we don’t know, but this is one story I will be watching closely.
The situation surrounding Ken Paxton highlights the rampant corruption within the Texas Republican Party. The GOP has systematically dismantled checks and balances, allowing figures like Paxton to abuse their power without consequence.
As we approach the 2024 election, it is more crucial than ever for voters to recognize the importance of holding these corrupt officials accountable. By voting against Republican candidates, we can work towards restoring integrity and justice in our state government. Every vote counts in the fight to reclaim a fair and transparent political system in Texas.
Vote early, vote often, just vote.
117 days left until the November 5 election!

You know you must have messed up bad if the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is allowing the investigation to proceed. Let's hope we can bring this hoodlum to justice once and for all.
