Insurrection Barbie: Katrina Pierson’s Political Comeback No One Asked For
How a washed-up MAGA mouthpiece found her way to the Texas House.
The propaganda arm of Tim Dunn’s organizations, the Texas Scorecard, has been running a series titled “Meet the Freshmen” to highlight all the Dunn-lickers they bought and paid for who are headed into the Texas House. While we’ve already covered a few, time is ticking, and we’re only 12 days out from these sycophants being sworn in as our government.
It seems only right that Lone Star Left presents to you the opposition to the Texas Scorecard’s fluff pieces about the incoming fascists to the Texas House. What can we expect from these Republicans this year? Will they work for the people or only for their donors?
There are 26 new Republicans headed for the Texas House, which isn’t the record, but it is a lot. The record was made in 2011, in the 82nd Legislative Session, with 35 freshmen in the House, with 29 being Republicans.

Now, for the next installment of freshman introductions…
Meet Insurrection Barbie.
Newly elected House Republican Katrina Pierson (R-HD33) is the only “Texas” Republican with a transcribed interview with the January 6 Committee in Congress. That’s right, Pierson contributed to organizing and promoting the January 6 insurrection, although she was never charged with any crimes.
I put Texas in parenthesis because, like most Republicans in our government, Pierson isn’t from Texas. Instead, she hails from Kansas.
Pierson isn’t the only Texas government official who participated in Trump’s 2021 attempted coup. Other anti-American GOP favorites include:
Senator Angela Paxton (R-SD08)
Ex-Representative Kyle Biedermann, US Senator Ted Cruz, and about a dozen Republican Congresspeople also participated in the plot to overthrow the American government. The fact that Republicans continue to vote for and elect these anti-American people speaks to the sickness deep within the Republican psyche.
Katrina Pierson joins a long list of Texas Republicans who are most known for being unhinged, angry, and unable to tell the truth.
Pierson’s fame grew during the 2016 Trump election when she served as the national spokesperson for Trump’s campaign. However, she was eventually kicked off the Trump team because she was “too combative and unstable.”
Check it out:
Pierson has spent the last decade as a Republican personality on Fox, OAN, and Newsmax. Thus, there are many videos of her acting combative and unstable.
Here’s a mashup of her from 2016:
However, her fame dwindled after she was kicked from Trump’s team. She became a behind-the-scenes person with no reason to appear on TV.
Katrina Pierson ousted a long-time incumbent in the Republican primary.
She was then unopposed in the general election. How did she win the GOP primary? By calling her Republican opponent a “secret Democrat” because that’s all it takes to win Republican elections in Texas.
Who funded her? Pierson racked in over $888,000 in the 2024 election. Her number one contributor was Tim Dunn under the Texans United for a Conservative Majority PAC, with $319,000. Her second most significant contributor was Governor Greg Abbott, with $264,000.
She will vote yes on vouchers, which is why Abbott gave her so much money. The previous Republican in HD33, Justin Holland, voted against vouchers.
But what else is she about?
From her website:
Without any explanation or ideas about achieving these priorities, these pictures and slogans probably helped her win with the Trump crowd, as reading isn’t necessarily their expertise. 🤦🏻♀️
While the House members have until March 14 to file legislation, Pierson has only filed one bill so far—HB1076, which targets squatters.
Scanning through her social media, it appears that her priorities are vouchers and making sure that her Democratic peers are shut out of government.
But the most telling reason Katrina Pierson is now a member of our state government:
Katrina Pierson wasn’t always a forgotten footnote in the Trump universe.
Back in 2016, she was a household name among MAGA diehards. Pierson was on TV practically every week as Trump’s national campaign spokesperson, defending every controversy, tweeting inflammatory nonsense, and providing the media with a near-daily dose of chaos. She embodied the aggressive, unapologetic style that made Trump’s campaign infamous.
But even Trump had his limits. By the end of 2016, Pierson was kicked to the curb. The subsequent years weren’t kind for someone who once reveled in the constant spotlight. Despite her participation in organizing and promoting the January 6 Insurrection, Pierson’s fame had faded. She became another washed-up Trumpworld relic.
Now, with her election to the Texas House, Pierson sees her political comeback as a chance to claw her way back into relevance. But let’s be honest, her priorities and funding sources don’t set her apart from any of her Republican colleagues. Like most GOP lawmakers in Texas, she’s bankrolled by Tim Dunn and Governor Greg Abbott, and she parrots the same tired priorities: vouchers, guns, border, and silencing Democratic voices.
If Pierson wants to stand out in the Texas House, it won’t be with policy or substance. Instead, she’ll have to rely on the same outlandish behavior that initially made her famous in 2016. The problem? She’s got plenty of competition for the spotlight in this clown car of a legislature. From conspiracy theorists to performative culture warriors, the Texas GOP is already bursting at the seams with ridiculous characters vying for attention.
Pierson will have to dig deep to be noticed in this crowd.
Pierson’s election to the Texas House is a victory for the billionaire donors and power-hungry extremists who have taken over the Republican Party.
Her role in the January 6 Insurrection and embarrassing flameout from Trump’s inner circle should disqualify her from holding any office. Yet, here she is, poised to bring her brand of chaos and dishonesty to our state government. Texans deserve representatives who care about their needs, not washed-up MAGA mouthpieces chasing relevance.
The legislature is already overflowing with absurdity, and Pierson’s desperate antics may finally prove one thing… just how low Texas Republicans are willing to go.
