For me this hits on a personal level as I have been a working-class county delegate at every state Democratic convention since 2016. My partner and I struggle to attend as working-class queer delegates to try and remind others in our caucus about the struggles of working-class Texans- especially those of us living on the border.

Ignoring the fact our convention was being held at one point in a hall named for a Republican, twelve dollar sandwiches to someone making less than than that in an hour is truly insult to injury. I'm not demanding that everyone drink Victory Gin or sing the Internationale, I just want our concerns to PLEASE be heard, which is hard when so few of us are willing to afford the time or the capital to be there for the fight.

Well said, Karthik. Agreed. As has been said, “It is the economy, stupid. “

According to Governor Newsom of California there were five I’s that led to the defeat of Kamala and several incumbent or prominent Democrats in the election namely Inflation, Immigration, Interest Rates, Incumbency and Israel’s war in Gaza.

Hope the Democrats have learned a lesson, do a course correction, hold Trump and Republicans accountable for delivering on their election promises including lowering cost of food, fuel, housing, healthcare and keep the voters informed.

TDP, once the party of Congressman then Senator and life long cedar wacker, rural electrification czar and New Deal guy was the party of the working class, because everyone was working class. Johnson evolved.

When Bobby Kennedy and DOJ and then LBJ became civil rightians, lawyers took over..Not too mention environmentalism and housingists and everything else it took to be a modern industrial society It took alot of lawyers to do that work. They were all progressive.

Somewhere along the way though TDP became nothing but lawyers. That was the ticket thru the turnstile. They managed to finagle Texas laws such that u could make a damn good living doing worker's comp cases and slip and fall cases and civil liability. Apart from defending Culen Davis there wasn't much profit in defense work. This culminated in the $15B tobbaco settlement. Lawyers were suing everything alive and dead and Texas was the place for big awards. It strangled Texas business and R's fought back and banished us to the back benches for 2 generations.

TDP I imagine is still an elite outfit. They certainly have proven they punch like a bunch of effete ivy leaguers.

One of the issues MD speaks about is our unfamilarity with working class finances.

This could splain why Tex Dems were routed. We were working from the numbers, not the lived lives of working class voters..

this one's a layup for me, thanks MD.....

Once upon a time Yours Truly was the Executive Director for the Hays County Democratic Party. The County Dem Elders had installed Jr. Tobbaco Settlement Attorney for O"Quinn and Laminack as the Hays County Democratic Chair.Oquinn and Laminack made $2B , that's billions in fees. He was 'absent' alot so they hired me to do his job whilst he went about doing his thing, mainly in Houston. He later became Texas Democratic Party STATE Chair.

see what i mean? TDP is a bottled and bonded offshoot of the Texas Trial Lawyers Assocation. I doubt they gave up all control.

Racoon City .....Elon City ..........see any parallels?

I was looking on TCDP website for some intel about the protest they are organizing for Sunday. There is one infinitesimally small line on the TCDP events page. That's it for the website as far as Sunday's event.... Unless ur an internet sleuth and u can figure out to got to X and scroll down to the bottom of the posts. The majority of people, families of undocs, seniors, are unlikely to do this and thus they remain uninformed about the protest. I couldn't even find something to link to.

There is however under 'Press Releases' , 3 press released from Alyson ....in 2023 , our former Chair.

So unless ur on X(the bad guy) or Bluesky u will never know this event is happening...If there is a PR campaign elsewhere, cable, TV, newspaper, radio whatever, there is no link to that at TCDP website so I have to guess there is not.

Crystal, Candace, it should not be this hard to get informed about a protest you are sponsoring and most people are not going to think to look. Maybe an update on todays' TC Dispatch. Crystal and Candace won't return my calls, so maybe MD can find out how many subscribe.

update: in today's TC Dispatch...the protest is listed a the bottom of the page....its like they are embarrassed by their own event. Would love for MD to get to the bottom of this PR debacle.

Meanwhile everybody's excited for our Mardi Gras fundraisere at a MAGA owned hotel downton.....not a Quincera Hall on the Northside owned by a Democrat. Bo French is laughing.
