Abbott and crew in Texas have been telegraphing their "utopia" for decades. The key point is not only what are we going to do about it, but also what's the guiding vision for Democracy in Texas and the rest of America. It's necessary to oppose the fascists, but to prevail, I believe we must also articulate and establish a picture of America that is democratic, inclusive, and works for all of us, not just the plutocrats and the fascists.
Yes, for decades. But for some reason, so many people still seem to be in the dark. You're absolutely right; while it's crucial to stand against policies and ideologies that threaten our democratic values, it's equally important to paint a vision for what we do want to see in our society.
As I persist in engaging with the community as a VDR and activist, I gain deeper insights into the reasons behind voter apathy. In the RGV, individuals don't invest in newspapers, whether in print or digital formats. Their technological proficiency is largely limited to platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook. And the party has a history of not reaching out to low voter propensity areas. This leads to lack of knowledge on issues. It's not that people don't care to vote. It's that they do not know or understand what is happening. People are not being courted by the democratic party. And those that know what is happening with politics at the state level lack the knowledge on how to organize and combat it. It's like learned helplessness.
The good news is that people are organizing. We hope there is enough time to make a difference this November.
