Exposing The Hypocrisy: Another Republican Gets Caught In Drag
How Dustin Burrows and Texas Republicans preach morality while playing dress-up.
A drag queen is a person who dresses in women’s clothing and makeup to imitate and exaggerate female gender roles and signifiers for entertainment purposes.
During the last legislative session and over the previous few years. Republicans have been gung-ho about banning drag performances in the state of Texas because they viewed all drag shows as “sexual performances” and acts that were done to indoctrinate children. In 2023, nearly a dozen bills were filed to ban drag shows in Texas completely.
According to the bill that Nate Schatzline filed, a “drag performance” is when a performer exhibits a gender identity that is different than the performer’s gender at birth.
Here is a video of Nate Schatzline doing drag, which went viral during the 88th Legislative session:
Needless to say, it’s interesting that Schatzline wanted to ban people from the very things that he did.

This time, the Republican who was caught doing drag was Lubbock, Texas State Representative Dustin Burrows.
Apparently, in 2019, Dustin Burrows performed in drag as Mother Ginger in The Nutcracker at the local Civic Center.
Lone Star Left readers know Burrows and Schatzline participated in harmless fun like many drag queens across Texas. The perception that drag is explicitly sexual is a Republican perception, which they’ve continuously expressed over the last several years.
Why do Republicans think their drag is okay, but another drag is not? Seems hypocritical.
At the core of Republican ideology, they don’t see women as equals but as mere sex objects. Which is why they see drag as a sexual activity. But not their drag. Their drag is all in good fun.
Listen to a Drag Queen explain what drag is:
Under the bills that Republicans filed in 2023, Republicans didn’t only want to ban drag; they also wanted to ban kissing during a Pride Parade, Miley Cyrus, and so much more.
Here is the debate on much of what the bill did (it’s like an hour long):
Republicans Say They Plan On Banning Drag Shows, But It’s So Much Worse - Part One
Republicans Say They Plan On Banning Drag Shows, But It’s So Much Worse - Part Two
The bill on drag shows that passed, SB12, was promptly overturned by federal courts because it violated the First Amendment.
For the record, Dustin Burrows voted in favor of SB12.
The Republican hypocrisy on drag performances is apparent when you consider their actions.
While the GOP pushes to criminalize drag shows, labeling them as inherently sexual and harmful to children, Republicans’ involvement in drag is brushed off as innocent fun. This double standard reveals a deeper issue within their ideology—an ingrained belief that their actions are somehow exempt from the moral scrutiny they impose on others.
When Republicans like Nate Schatzline and Dustin Burrows engage in drag, they justify it as harmless and non-sexual, the opposite of the way they demonize drag queens who aren’t part of their inner circle. It’s selective outrage.
This hypocrisy extends beyond drag performances. This is a broader Republican trend of imposing restrictive, moralistic laws on others while exempting themselves from the same standards. They champion “family values” while engaging in the very behaviors they decry, from drag to extramarital affairs. This pattern of do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do tells us all about the sincerity of their moral crusades.
In reality, their crusade against drag shows isn’t about protecting children or upholding decency—it’s about controlling cultural narratives and marginalizing groups they find threatening. By casting drag as inherently sexual, they weaponize moral panic to further their political agenda, all while turning a blind eye to their participation in the same activities.
This hypocrisy isn’t just a footnote; it’s central to understanding the motivations behind these legislative efforts. It exposes a deep-seated desire to dictate societal norms while flouting them in private, a classic case of rules for thee but not for me.

Remember when it comes to people like this - every objection is projection and their obsession is always confession. It's THEIR minds that are always fixated on sex, not us. They project out their salaciousness on to those they are mesmerized yet disgusted by then use their internalized sexualization to justify controlling others.
It's the same thing as during slavery when slave owners and overseers raped black enslaved women by claiming they were tempted by these women while calling enslaved black men as oversexed and threats to white women. Same stuff, different day....
