Abbott Plays Politics And Fundraises As Largest Fire In Texas History Decimates Panhandle
Governor Abbott's Week of Priorities: Campaign trails over crisis management.
Most of you could never be convinced that Governor Greg Abbott has ever acted in the best interest of Texas and Texans. However, after his behavior this week, everyone should know that he only cares about playing politics.
The Smokehouse Creek Fire has now burned 1.1 million acres (at the time of writing this) and has thus far claimed two lives. Not only is this fire the largest in Texas history, but it is also the second-largest-ever fire in all of America.
You would think the Governor would be at a command center, giving press conferences, deploying the National Guard, and ordering additional resources to combat this unprecedented disaster. Instead, his response has been notably absent, highlighting a disconnect between his actions and the urgent needs of his constituents.
This fire started Monday. What has Abbott been up to since then?
Well, on Monday, he started his day in Seguine, fundraising and campaigning for some asshole Republican running for the Texas House.
By lunchtime on Monday, he was in Victoria, fundraising and campaigning for another Republican hopeful.
Then, he spent Monday evening in Victoria, fundraising and campaigning for Representative Jacey Jetton.
By Tuesday morning, Governor Abbott was in Killeen, fundraising and campaigning in a highly gerrymandered district for some random GOP candidate.
On Tuesday afternoon, he went to Burleson to fundraise and campaign for a 90-year-old Republican candidate for the Texas House.
Then, on Tuesday evening, he went to Abilene to fundraise and campaign for a candidate who supports his school voucher program.
On Wednesday morning, Abbott went deep into Klan territory up in Lamar County to fundraise and campaign.
By Wednesday afternoon, Abbott was back in Fredricksburg, fundraising and campaigning for Representative Ellen Troxclair.
Then, last night, Wednesday evening, Abbott went to San Antonio to fundraiser and campaign for that LaHood fellow that all the Republicans keep calling a “liberal.”
And today?
Abbott is down in Eagle Pass for Trump’s visit; he’s doing a lot of boot-licking in hopes of being named Trump’s Vice President.
Why is Greg Abbott ignoring the raging fires in the panhandle?
This week, Abbott has made 24 social media posts. Of those 24, 11 were about fundraising and campaigning, nine were crafted lies about Biden and the border, and only four related to the largest fire in Texas history.
Moreover, the Texas National Guard is supposed to be called in during natural disasters, floods, hurricanes, and wildfires. The Texas National Guard is supposed to provide search and rescue, logistics, and medical support. The National Guard should ensure the public’s safety and order.
While Abbott did enact a Disaster Declaration for the Texas fires, he only dispatched one helicopter from the National Guard—just one.
Why? Because our taxpayer dollars have been used to turn the National Guard into nothing more than a political prop for Greg Abbott and other crony Republicans who are using them for their border lies to enact a fascist takeover of America.
Meanwhile, 1.1 million acres of the Texas panhandle have burned.
Greg Abbott doesn’t care about Texas, and he doesn’t care about Texans in the panhandle, which overwhelmingly voted red. On top of that, over 85% of the state’s cattle population is located on ranches in the panhandle.
This fire is going to hit the cattle industry hard.
Thousands of cattle have already been reported dead. So, in the coming months, when beef and milk prices skyrocket across America, you’ll know that the reason is because of these fires. And, of course, Republicans will probably blame Biden when it inevitably happens.
(Pro-tip: If your family has room for extra beef in your freezer, now would be the time to stock up.)
Governor Greg Abbott’s response to the catastrophic Smokehouse Creek Fire illustrates his priorities, with political ambitions seemingly taking precedence over his constituents’ immediate and dire needs. The lack of adequate state response and support at a time when Texans are facing unparalleled devastation exacerbates the suffering.
The people of Texas deserve leadership that is responsive, compassionate, and prioritizes their safety and well-being above all else. It is a stark reminder of the importance of accountability in public office. As the state moves forward, the need for leaders who truly represent and fight for the interests of all Texans has never been more evident. Make sure to vote in the primary and plan to vote in November.

Just as Desantis "ran" Florida by running that state into the ground while running for POTUS, Abbott is doing the same thing just in slow motion. I knew was a grade-A SOB from jump street but when he attended a fundraiser the evening of the Ulvalde tragedy, that revealed just how vile and heartless he truly is.
from TM article...............imagine this level of humanity once existed. These MAGA GOOPers including Abbott are a *bunch of bloodthirsty sociopaths..................
"Abbott’s first Speaker, (Strauss) was a centrist Republican who once told the New Yorker in the year he killed an anti-transgender bill seeking to limit who could use what bathrooms that no matter how much political capital he had to expend, he didn’t want “the suicide of a single Texan on [his] hands.”
